jDownloads is an extensive Download Manager for the award winning Content Management System (CMS) Joomla. It is a free GPL Extension with many special functions!

Despite the many options, it is easy to use as it integrates seamlessly into the Joomla administration and has the familiar structure and appearance of the Joomla core components. This makes familiarisation much easier.

Get a first overview by taking a look at the list of the most important functions here or visit the new jDownloads Demo installation with some application examples to see what is possible with this download manager. However, this demo only contains the most frequently used functions, as a complete overview is not possible due to the many variations and options. It therefore only shows a few possibilities as an initial overview.

jDownloads 4.0.38 Stable for Joomla 4  and Joomla 5  is now available for download. Please update as soon as possible. For easy installation go to the Joomla Extensions Manager / Updates and install the new update. 

This version fixes again some bugs in the frontend and backend. Support for Captcha plugins has also been improved. The hCaptcha plugin and other plugins compatible with reCaptcha v3 can now also be used. Therefore the support for the old reCaptcha v2 plugin ends. A few CSS and language file corrections are also part of the update.

This version mainly fixes some errors in the frontend when using Google reCaptcha within some jDownloads forms. With Joomla 5 only the reCaptcha v3 plugin is used, while with Joomla 4 the reCaptcha v2 plugin is used. After the Joomla 5 update, you must therefore reactivate the plugin. As always, more details and the change list for this and other versions can be found on the download details page (sorry, coming soon).

In the course of this year the 1,000,000 download of jDownloads was made!

Screenshot 000776More than 15 years ago the first version of jDownloads for Joomla 1.0.15 was published by me. The functionality was initially reduced to the most essential and the first versions were unfortunately also only available in German. In the course of the following years, however, this shortcoming was quickly remedied after more and more Joomla users showed interest in this extension. Quickly, special wishes of the users were expressed, which I tried to implement even then, as far as it seemed reasonable to me. And there are now translations for almost 50 languages.

In the course of this year the 1,000,000 download of jDownloads was made (cumulated value of all versions). So by now, the number of (active) jDownloads users worldwide should be in the tens of thousands. I would like to thank the loyal users for this and I will try to keep jDownloads up to date in the future.

Since jDownloads was started as an open source project from the beginning, it was of course always free to obtain and use. Many other Joomla extensions that used to be freely available have become commercial over the last few years and are now only available through paid subscriptions. This is regrettable, but due to the ever-increasing maintenance and development costs, it is often no longer possible to do otherwise. This is certainly also due to the frequent changes that the developer team of Joomla always makes with new major versions and has also made in the past. Unfortunately, often at the expense of backward compatibility, which increases the customization work. Nevertheless, I will continue to try to offer jDownloads for free.
