jDownloads 4.0.51 Stable released

We are pleased to announce the release of jDownloads 4.0.51 Stable.
This version primarily fixes two issues that occurred in the last released version. It also includes a few minor fixes relating to file permissions when creating thumbnails and CSS files.
If no new issues are reported, 4.0.51 is expected to be the final release in the 4.0 series. Please update as soon as possible. For easy installation go to the Joomla Extensions Manager / Updates and install the new update.
jDownloads 4.0.50 Stable released

We are pleased to announce the release of jDownloads 4.0.50 Stable.
This version primarily contains important stability fixes for the editor button (frontend/modal selection), including fixes for routing/itemid context and pagination behaviour. In addition, internal preparations have been implemented to facilitate the transition to the upcoming 4.1 series.
As things stand, 4.0.50 is expected to be the last release in the 4.0 series.
All users of the 4.0.x series are recommended to update to 4.0.50.
Start of Internal Beta Testing for jDownloads 4.1

The internal beta test for jDownloads 4.1 has now begun.
In this phase, we test the Joomla 6 compatibility, new features, upgrades and detailed improvements under real-world conditions before public testing begins. The aim is to further improve quality and identify potential edge cases at an early stage.
If internal testing proceeds as planned, a public beta will be released shortly – if necessary and appropriate for final validation.

Dear jDownloads Community,
In our recent article "What's next for jDownloads?", we shared the first glimpses of our roadmap for 2026. We promised you compatibility with Joomla 6 through v4.1, followed by an ambitious generational leap. Today, we're excited to detail that vision more fully – and to show you exactly how we're making it happen.
Since 2007, jDownloads has been serving thousands of websites as a reliable download management solution for Joomla. With the release of Joomla 6 and PHP 8.4/8.5, we're facing an important technological leap – and we're using this opportunity to present a clear roadmap.
Version 4.1: Immediate Joomla 6 Compatibility (Q1 2026)
What is v4.1?
A fully functional transitional release that enables you to upgrade to Joomla 6 right now. All core features remain intact, with code adapted for PHP 8.4/8.5 compatibility.

- ✅ Redesigned scan function for large directories
- ✅ New, modern layouts for each view type
- ✅ Joomla 6 + PHP 8.4/8.5 compatible
For Existing Users:
Updating from jD 3.x/4.0 to 4.1 works as usual. Your data, categories, and downloads remain fully preserved. Custom layouts may require minimal adjustments – we'll provide documentation.
Support: Version 4.1 will receive 6 months of bugfix support.
Version 6.0: The Modern Future (Q2/Q3 2026)
Why v6.0?
Over the years, we've accumulated legacy code that needs addressing. With v6.0, we're building on a clean, modern codebase – without baggage, but with ambitious new features.

What's next for jDownloads?

Some jDownloads users are surely wondering what will happen with jDownloads in 2026. I would like to briefly explain the current status and give a little preview. Joomla! 6.0 was released in mid-October. Unfortunately, jDownloads is not yet compatible with this latest version of Joomla. However, in order to enable jDownloads users to switch to Joomla! 6, the necessary adjustments have been in the works for some time. Final testing is currently underway, and I hope to be able to release version 4.1 shortly.
In addition to full compatibility with Joomla! 6, the new jDownloads version 4.1 will include several minor improvements and new responsive standard layouts. New functionalities will only be available in a later version to be released next year.

With jDownloads version 4.0.48 we have released a security update to address a reported cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability.
jDownloads 4.0.48 Stable for Joomla 4 and Joomla 5 is now available for download. Please update as soon as possible. For easy installation go to the Joomla Extensions Manager / Updates and install the new version.
Note: A CSRF vulnerability could theoretically be exploited to allow an attacker to trick you into performing an unwanted action on your account - without your knowledge. An example of this would be sending a request on your behalf while you are logged into your account.
