jDownloads version 4 Stable
- The range of functions in the first versions was almost identical to that of the previous version 3.9.
- But new functions and features will be added step by step in later versions.
Important information
- It is not possible to upgrade directly from the much older version 3.2.x to version 4! In such cases, it is always necessary to upgrade to version 3.9 first. Only then can an update to version 4 be carried out.
- If you want to update an existing jDownloads installation 3.9.x to version 4, please watch this PDF tutorial first:
- For the update, however, at least version 3.9.8.4 must be installed! This must be done before you switch to Joomla 4, after that it is no longer possible!
- If the update attempt is aborted with a message about corrupt DB tables, please read the instructions here to solve the problem.
- Also, always make a complete backup before updating!
- As always, we accept no liability for any data loss.
- If you find and report a bug, we aim to fix it as quickly as possible. This will be helped when reporting a bug to give relevant details so we are able to reproduce the problem.

Developers whose Joomla extensions support jDownloads in any way, or have developed their own plugins or modules for this purpose, must rework their extensions a little bit to be compatible with jDownloads 4.

Important note: The part with the upgrade process to Joomla 4 only serves to illustrate the jDownloads upgrade and is not intended as a general Joomla upgrade guide. Addendum:

However the 'estreme' organsation have created a Joomla 4 version.
The Joomla 4 compatible version of JComments from estreme can be downloaded here. Please also see the jDownloads Documentation for more details.
JComments 4 is an extensive comment extension for Joomla 4. To use it with the jDownloads series 4 you must download this file. Afterwards copy the unzipped file, com_jdownloads.plugin.php, to: components/com_jcomments/plugins (and overwrite the old version). jDownloads version 4.0.17 beta (or newer) is required.
You have the correct version if the archive file name is 'com_jdownloads.plugin_4.1.zip'.
Make sure that the option "Activate support for all Joomla content plugins?" is activated in the jDownloads configuration Frontend tab
Note: Comments are only shown in the Download Details page. But the amount of comments can be viewed in the Categories, All Downloads and My Downloads page. Do not use Komento and JComments at the same time!
## [4.0.38] - 2023-12-29
jDownloads 4.0.38 stable release published.
This version fixes again some bugs in the frontend and backend. Support for Captcha plugins has also been improved. The hCaptcha plugin and other plugins compatible with ReCaptcha v3 can now also be used. Therefore the support for the old reCaptcha v2 plugin ends. A few CSS and language file corrections are also part of the update.
We are proud to present the new jDownloads version 3.9.x. This is a stable release and should be your choice when you are starting with jDownloads in Joomla 3.9.
Our aim for the new version is, as far as possible, to support the new and recently added functions of the current Joomla! Version 3.9 and to integrate them into jDownloads. But it was also necessary to remove or change some of the older parts of jDownloads. This means that version 3.9.x will not be backwards compatible with version 3.2.
If you are upgrading from an existing 3.2 installation to the new version 3.9.x please see the upgrading guide . It is an easy, multistep upgrade, not complicated a migration!

Important: This version is not compatible with Joomla 4.x. A compatible version is in work and will be published in 2022.
This special Community Builder plugin allowing showing those Downloads that the user has created in jDownloads. It gives a similar list as using menu item 'my downloads' but in the Community builder environment.
You will need to have installed Community Builder version 2.8.0 or later in Joomla 4.
This Plugin is installed using facilites in Community Builder - please DO NOT attempt to use the Joomla Plugin Installation.

Note: Presently the only know 'challenge' is that it does not show the number of Downloads created by the user. This is being investigated.
