Custom Fields

I successfully added custom fields and updated copies of the appropriate layouts for backend creation and editing. No problem.
I created a new user group & set permissions globally and in jdownloads categories.
I cannot get the settings to display only the selected fields in the downloads creation form for either the frontend or backend. The download creation in the frontend shows the full entry form at first and once the tab for additional info is clicked, the form does not appear in full format.

I think there maybe two points here:

By this do you mean that in the front end if you click on the Additional Info tab then the previous tab you used 'disappeared'.  If this is what you meant we have seen that before with certain templates which make a feature of making tabs hidden after you have used them once.  Could you please advise if this is the case and if so which template are you using.
As a temporary workaround you could switch off tabs for the UG allowed to create/edit Downloads  see field 'Use tabs in Frontend
Upload Form' in Group Creation/Editing Settings.

You select which field you want to allow to be asked when creating/editing a Download in User Groups Settings in the section Group Creation/Editing Settings for the relevant User Group

As to question #1 about tabs disappearing. They do. Turning off the tabs option in UG settings did not make a difference.

As to question #2, the additional fields are not showing up according to the UG settings on the front-end data entry. Everything works just fine in the backend. Screen shots are attached showing the progression. Also attached is an output view from an entry made from the backend.  Template is lt_stable from JoomShaper.com.

Question 1 is a template or other extension problem.  We have seen this before.  If it is possible could you send me by PM a link to your site together with super user logon details.  I may then be able to find the cause/solution to the disappearing tabs.

I looked for this template but could not find it.
You could maybe check by switching to the regular Joomla Protostar template.

Did you create a specific UG for jD users who can upload?  For the Custom questions did you set a high value such as 123 for the UG ranking?  Because a user may belong to multiple UG's, some through inheritance, then jD uses the Ranking to select which is the most important one as far as uploads are concerned

I have solved the 'non-appearance of the Custom Questions.  You had created Archivist UG with Publisher as it Parent.  That means that any user in the Archivist UG is also a member of Publisher, Editor Author Registered and Public UGs by virtue of inheritance. As publisher has a Ranking of 50 and Archivist has ranking of 30 the jD uses Publisher UG settings.  So I have set Archivist to my favourite ranking of 123 (Actually edited earlier note today as I had thought that may be the problem.  Normally I suggest to people to make the 'uploader' UG have Registered as the parent so as not to confuse abilitiers of publishing and soi on.  And of course a user may belong to multiple UGs explicitly.

I have added CM to Archivist UG. And now the questions appear in the list in Additional. 
Will now change the UG to use tabs to research that problem

The Tabs seem to work OK. Not sure what has changed!!!

Tried to create a download from front end. It created OK but had no file selection. So added tick to 'Select Main File'  in Group Creation/Editing Settings. But couldould only upload a zip type file despite what was in setup. Is this intended?  And if so how did you arrange for that?

After uploading an out of date zip of old css I noticed that Rename symbol missing and Delete symbol in wrong place.  Used Firefox Inspector and saw it was using file "a214ec485115f70dccf1b16ddade6d1b.css" rather than "jdownloads_fe.css". Downloaded both from site to compare.  Whilst broadly similar there were some differences.
 
It would be better if you want to override css in jdownloads_fe.css if you put any modifications in
jdownloads_custom.css as that is loaded later - see http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/custom-css

I find that indeed strange too. I didn't modify any css nor did I create an override. I'm confused.

I had missed the part in the documentation about the rankings being defaulted. I had assumed that I set the rankings for all groups. Thanks for finding that part of the problem--something finally makes sense. Still unsure about the other behaviors.

Think I have sorted out the inability to load other than zip files.
The field "Allowed File Types" in Group Creation/Editing Settings of the relevant UG in Userr Groups Settings was

zip,rar, pdf, doc, docx  which includes some spaces before the names, which I had not noticed.  Changed to

Code Select Expand

zip,rar,pdf,doc,docx without spaces and all was well.

I will check out in general and if it is a general fault I will raise a bug issue.

Now we just have location of css to unravel!

Paul,
The next release of jD should include a preg_replace string that will only leave characters a to z, A to Z, 0 to 9 and commas in places where comma separated extension strings are requested in jD Config and User Groups Settings.
Strictly it was not a bug but rather being a bit too 'pedantic'.
