Yes
As from Joomla 3.8 the ids that appeared in links are no longer present.
You need to set the SEO settings in Joomla! Global Config
Also there is a nice extension called Direct Alias (free and pro version) that makes short links on menu items

For instance the link below if it had been set as a direct alias would have been https://alterbrains.com/direct-alias

The simple answer is Yes!  Joomla! provides a much more powerful website than Wordpress.  Tinstalling Joomla! is straight forward and the is good documentation to help.  Also many Componentes and other extension that assist.
