Hello,

It's been many years that I use Jdownloads with great success for my aviation website, however, I have around a thousand files in my library and many of them should belong in more than one category, for example, the plane Airbus A320 could belong in two categories "Airbus" and "Commercial jet" or even "Airliner". I'm having huge problems now because I always have to make a choice.

So my feature request is to allow multi-category in Jdownloads. For example, a download could have one primary (or master) category and may have many secondary categories.

Thank you for reading my request.

If you create a  new download or edit an existing Download from the backend there is a facility to select a file that already appears in an existing Download. So only one copy is required.  Please see attached pics.
Note that in my examples I have used different Download names but that is not essential provided the two or more Downloads are in different cats (directories)

This facility is not available in frontend create/edit a Download.  Will discuss with Arno if it should also be added to Front End.

Thank you very much CollinM for your reply.

This method concerns the file and therefore it's not what I need. However, thank you for your help.

A clean method for a real multi-category feature would be a master category (used for SEF url) and an option for a few secondary categories, we only want to show the download in some other categories let's keep it simple.

Look at my SCREENSHOT,  I have just modified the html to show you.

If there were 'secondary' categories then how are they populated?
As in my previous reply the 'secondary' Download may have a different description for example and may be assigned to different category.  Yes for an established site like yours it would be a lot of work.  So it all depends on how 'secondary' categories are populated. Can a secondary category be a Master category elsewhere?  I am sure your Commercial Aircraft Cat would have many other 'secondaries'.  This could become quite complex.
To provide the cross linking you could use tags. Or you could make say Airbus a sub category of Commercial Aircraft.

As you know the jD Categoies organisation is a tree structure like conventional directories.  Tags, which have been troublesome, may well be worth looking at.  The other item which might be worth expanding is the Related Module.
Basically having more ways to access the information is a good idea.  It is just at present I cannot see how 'secondary' categories would work in general situations.
One would not want to list all the Downloads in a 'secondary' when showing the 'Master'.  It maybe in your example the present 'secondary'  and 'master' should swap. Hmm!
