Updating and Sef

I can't say that updating Jdownloads from old version it's very easy as in other components.
I spent more than 7 hours to update it. And As I can see, will spend also 7 hours - because all layouts was deleted (why?)

But more major question it's SEF. Is there way to get normal sef urls like /category/subcategоry/file ?
This is first question after installation any component on joomla.

Migrating duration The main time for updating is when there are a large number of categories/downloads.  The resources available from the web server are the limitation.  One useful suggestion is to migrate on a local PC with XAMPP or WAMP.  Here the resource limits can be greatly relaxed.

Layouts overwriting
It seems I did not explicitly mention this in the migration notes, and for that I apologise.  I have now updated the documentation. Note that any upgrade between versions also overwrites them.

SEF Yes removing the id from the SEF would be a definite improvement.  This however is not a jDownloads specific problem but is due to the Joomla! standard code. There are many references on the web. For example

In any solution one would have to be careful that the reference was unique. Including the IDs does ensure uniqueness.

Given however that it would be desirable to have 'non-ID' sefs I would suggest that at the present time it is more important to get a stable version rather than undertake what seems to me to be significant surgery to something that is not strictly a bug, but rather a distinct enhancement.  From your previous work you are clearly much more familiar with the inside of Joomla! than myself.  I sure it would help if someone with your capabilities were able to look into this challenge and find working code.

Ok, may be you right.

I used exellent plugin for ArtioSef for Jdownloads, but after update it don't work.

But I'm talkin not only about ID's.

There is no any plugin that can works with Artio SEF or SH404Sef.

But may be new version can work with native joomla sef?

So, now links with joomla sef looks like:

maincategory/category/2-maincategory - for main category
maincategory/subcategory/category/2-subcategory - for subcategory
maincategory/subcategory/download/2-subcategory/100-downloadname - for downloads

As you can see, it always duplicates maincategory or subcategory
And it always insert prefixes "category" and "download"...

Such urls impossible to use on live site.


Wgich file I should edit to try fix this uggly urls?

Hey I'm not programmer 

I just want to say, that urls in jdownloads are Ugly.

And I don't know how to fix it. I think this is task for developer of jdownloads...

Just a little. I can edit some code, but I can't develop new router file for jdowloads...

Every user want to have another sef URLs.  For this exists many special Joomla extensions so this is not the main job from jDownloads.

Additional special plugins for some sef components are planned but not implicit required (by the way, i have read here in the forum sometimes that users had problems with acesef. Many users forget also to delete the sef cache after changings).

But maybe should you consider to use a full commercial download manager, as your requirements are high (for a free open source project wich only low manpower).

When site already builded with Jdownloads - it's impossible...
There is no any migrators.
But I like Jdownloads, I only tryling to make it better.

Regarding SEF urls and 3.2 - I contacted ARTIO, who make JoomSEF. They have now updated their Jdownloads extension for "Joomla 3 and jDownloads 3.2.24 beta".

You have to pay for it, but it works perfectly.

It because I purchased support time on ArtioSEF and paid 140 euro for updating plugin.
Now you can purchase it for 10 euro.
