News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

I cannot not find a solution to the empty category issue mentioned in the bug section -  see image. I tried restoring several backups without success. Reinstalling did not work either. The problem occured after uploading the site from localhost to server. I had several installs withou this issue.
Any new suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi
Was everything OK on the local server?
How did to transfer from your local server (XAMPP?) to your site

My first reaction is that the database did not transfer properly - is the collation the same?

Always use Xampp.

Just downloaded entire site backup copy to Xampp from the live server and all the files appear.

The collation on the live server is the same as Xampp.

Have four client domains using the same procedure without issue on same live server. All upgraded from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 with current version 4.3.3.

Hi,
seems that I do not understand what you mean with your first post.  ::)

QuoteI cannot not find a solution to the empty category issue mentioned in the bug section -  see image.

It is on the attached pic nothing to see about empty categories?
Just an indication of a successful DB table correction.
Best Regards / Gruß

Empty categories, meaning files not shown.
Does not mean files cannot be downloaded if link is available on your side.

SOLVED

No shortcuts. It will be a waste of time for anyone with a similar problem.

Doing a clean install on Joomla 4 and rescan all files and trying to restore backup did not fix the issue.

Part #1 - Clean install to Joomla 3 to easily migrate with stellar results.

1. Joomla 3 clean install (no third party extentions)
2. Scan all JD 3.9 files
3. Restore "live site backup" for JD 3.9
4. Upgrade Joomla 3 migration to Joomla 4. (be sure to follow migration suggestion to disable JD system plugin.)
5. Install JD 4 latest version
6. Create backup JD 4 for Part #2

Part #2 - "Live site backup" Extract to Xampp

1. Uninstall JD4 and database tables
2. Match Part #1 database collation to "live site backup" database
3. Install latest version JD 4 to "live site backup"
4. Full scan JD 4 "live site backup"
5. Import Part #1 layouts and options
6. IMPORTANT: Verify and Match Part #1 database collation if different than NEW JD 4 latest version on "live site backup"
7. Restore Part #1 JD 4 to NEW JD 4 latest version to "live site backup"

A fresh install to fix any migration issues was successful.

I repeated this process for all client JD 4 sites with stellar results.

Thank you Colin for your help and suggestion to start over with a clean install!!!
