Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Custom fields in frontend with No Tabs

On one of my websites the User Group Publisher was set to be able to create downloads.  The group's settings was set to show a small group of fields including some custom fields and the Use Tabs option was set to No.  Custom fields used to appear for the user's in this group but now they don't.  Presumably this after upgrading to 3.9 but I can't be sure as many other changes were done at the same time including a change of template.

Should it be possible not to have Tabs and make the custom fields available?

Yes you need to have tabs on. That is if you wish to edit Fields from the Frontend then you need to set UserGroup- 'Group creation/Editing Settings' tab - option 'Use tabs in Frontend Upload Form' to Yes
