Important files - how to implement?

I need to mark certain downloads that are actual/important right now to my users. They may old or new downloads and they are not always the same. I could use a custom field to mark these files, but how would I list and indicate these important files for my users?

You can upload your own symbol file and select that symbol for your file.  For example I have uploaded an image I called "princess-sparkle.png" as a symbol (ability to upload a symbol is in the create upload form) so such a symbol could mark special uploads.  see pic attached.  Another alternative is to put these important uploads in their own category.  Also of course you can add  images to a upload and of course show a description - see second pic

What I actually had in mind was that I need a view that lists these important files for the user, just like the Newest, Hottest or Updated list in the content plugin.

it should be easy for a programmers to modify an existing module to get this result.

In Module jDownloadsTop you can select which category is shown.  So you could use Joomla! to make a copy of that module, giving it another name.  All your 'important' downloads could be in the specified category.

If you have different groups of user then you could make multiple copies of the module and have multiple categories.  Each module would have its view access set to allow it to be seen by a particular group.  Read the article http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/controlled-access-to-categories-and-downloads but think also interms of setting Access to the module.

PS I think, but have not tested, that one renamed copy of the module may be OK.  You can set the various categories in the module.  Provided each category has a different Access level then only the relevant category or categories, will be shown.  Could even just have one category and set Acess level on each download.
