Best way to organize downloads for a growing game website?

Hi everyone,

I'm using jDownloads on a Joomla site that hosts a lot of downloadable game-related files (mods, guides, maps, save files, etc.), and the number of categories is growing quickly.

Right now I have around 30 categories, but I expect that to double over the next few months. I'm wondering what the recommended structure is for keeping everything organized without making navigation confusing.
Is it better to use a few main categories with several subcategories, or create more top-level categories?

the best way is to have some top level categories and then use sub categories a sub-sub categories. For example Maps could be a top level Categories and the types of maps or the regions they cover would be sub-categories.
Consider the categories like a upside down 'tree'.
