Hello JDownloads team,

I would like to request a feature that allows a single download to be assigned to multiple categories at the same time.

Currently, each download can only belong to one category, which makes it difficult to organize files that are relevant to different sections of a website (for example: manuals, updates, and resources).

Is this feature already planned, or is there a recommended workaround using the current version of JDownloads?

Thank you for considering this request.

Hi
A Download consists of many items: for example a Title, a Description, publishing options and usually with a downloadable file  So you can create multiple Downloads with different titles, different descriptions, different access,  and so on. Specifically you could allocate them to different Categories.  Each of these Downloads could have the same downloadable file.
That is a Download is not just the downloadable file.

Hope this clarifies matters but if you need more assistance , please ask
Best wishes
Coln

I understand this request. However, jDownloads has a specific structure that allows it to check the correct existence of all categories (in the form of directories) and all downloads (in the form of files) at any time, and also enables categories or downloads to be added quickly via FTP.
To do this, the category and downloads database structure must be virtually identical to the folders and files physically stored on the server. This would be difficult to achieve in the way you want, or only possible with considerable additional effort.
Therefore, the form you desire is not currently planned.

However, after you have created a download in a category, you can add further new downloads (in other categories) that refer to the file of the first download. This gives you a main entry that applies to several categories. It's a bit more complicated, but it works.
See pics.
