Expiration date for download/document

I need to establish an expiration date to the download, and the option to send an alert to the file owner and/or site administrator.

When you create a Download you can set the start and end dates when it is published, that is when it will be seen in the front end.
Presently there is no standard method of reporting when the Download becomes unavailable.

One could set up a Cron job to check if it is still downloadable but I have not tried that way!
