News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

When I upload a file from the front end, it displays about ten times in the listing, but is only shown once in the back end. Any clues why this is happening? It was OK a few months ago and I haven't changed anything.

Hi
This is a bug that is fixed in next version
See http://www.jdownloads.com/forum/index.php?topic=8327.0
for more details - and in that stream you will find near the end an intermediate release (v37) that fixes problem.  There will be a formal v37 soon which will upgrade over the intermediate one.

Thanks. I installed the latest version and that works. I'm having a brain freeze. When I upload as a publisher, the access permissions to view are set as Special. How do I change it back to Public?

Hi
For info we are just testing the real new jD version 37 - expect it to be released in a couple of days or so

You can see which Downloads have what access level by looking at the Downloads in the backend.  Need to identify the highest level category where Access level is set as Special.  Change that category to the level you want.  usually it cascades down all lower levels but you may need to change them all.
Also check in User Groups Setting - Group Creation/Editing Settings to see if you have inadvertently set  the Default Access to Special.

Incidentally it would be better if you created a new user group called say uploader with Registered as its parent, and set high ranking.  Using Publishe UG may allow people who are only to upload to be able to modify Joomla articles, and vica versa.  You can always make users who need both abilities  members of both User Groups

Thanks for the advice. I do indeed need to make a new user group to avoid users being able to edit the website, but they're very trusted users.

I found the setting to change from default special to public. Seems to work.
