I have upgraded joomla and jDownlads to the latest versions however now only the Super Admins are allowed to download files, even after I change the user group permissions, is someone able to assist me, I am more than happy to send through login details and cpanel access if this can be fixed quickly.

Hi,
you are not the only one which had this problems with imported data.
But i can not confirm that this is a bug. Maybe a wrong handling?
Read here:
http://www.jdownloads.com/forum/index.php?topic=7725.msg30533#msg30533

When you will send me the data for your backend via PM. But i need a little bit time to check it.

You had not defined the base permissions before you have start the import from the old jD series 1.9.x.
Maybe is this the reason for the problem.

Can you send me a backup file from your old jD 1.9.x db tables?
You can send me  a download link via PM.

Or can i get this via the cpanel access?

By the way, you have installed a lot of extensions so your website is very, very slow.  :-\

Hi
I think that when creating a new download it should check the permissions in what will become the parent category.  At present I think code checks on permissions in component.
It is OK if you edit as it checks the Downloads permissions
Colin

PS as a short term fix change the Component permissions of the 'uploader' group to allow create, edit and edit own.

Hi
I had the same problem.
What User Group are you using?  As a temporary work round use the options button on the Control Panel and the set Create permission (and also Edit and Edit Own) there for the user group you are using for front end.

Hi juicydig,
i will send your tomorrow the corrected imported db tables via e-mail.
So you can import it via the jD backup restoration function from the jD tools page.

But you must afterwards do a little bit self (change component permissions) to get all what you need.
More hints via e-mail.

Hi,
Quotehowever now only the Super Admins are allowed to download files, even after I change the user group permissions
The original download items was defined as: 'Download=special View=special' This was correct?

The Bridge page is a big website and with a lot of languages. So it is not easy to understand the structure.
And working with db tables on a live site is not really a good idea. So you should self do this.

Anyway, i will send you in the next hours the db tables. But please note, that i can not give any guarantees that all is to hundred percent correctly.
Your informations was very small.

This is a live website, I can run a backup from akeeba if there are any issues - I am unsure of the previous permissions, but that must be correct if thats the last working copy of the file

I have get the db tables from the 'bridgepr_2009' database.
I hope this is the current.

So as summary we can say:
1) it shall be possible for all members from the 'special' user group to download the files.
2) the view access shall also be the same as in the old jD installation (access only for the special group)
Can you me confirm this?

(by the way... when this is correct, i understand not why the downloads menu item in the frontend is public visible.
Visitors can in this case only seen an empty download area. Maybe a hint for your client.)

Hey Arno,

The correct database is bridgepr_2009, Im not sure of the previous setting but basically we need every usergroup from registered to super admin to be able to download.  The ony people not able to download are the public unregistered users.

If you go to this page - http://www.bridge-project.org/en/curriculum/curriculum-files/category/4-election-bridge-files.html
You are able to see what public visitors see, which is only the files, however if you are logged in you should be able to download these files, does that make sense?

Hi
Please go to Options on the Control Panel.  Set the Registered Group  Download permission to Allowed (unless it already shows Allowed).  Then every logged in person will be able to download.  If you want every one to see the files then leave Access level at Public.

Please also read the new documentation http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/rapidly-setting-view-access-levels-of-multiple-categories-and-downloads

Hey Colin,

This has already been done and it changes nothing, still only super admin has access to download, I tried this before leaving a comment on this forum, every user group has the permissions as allowed to download except the public with is not.

Hi juicydig,
the problem has to do with the import process. By this are not saved correctly the elements in the assets table. The structure for the jD items is destroyed.
So we should redoing this.

But it would be the best when i could try it self. ;)
But you should again before create a backup from the complete sql database. Or a backup via akeeba.

Give me short note when i can run the next try.  ;)

Edit:

i have now set offline the download area on the bridge page. I think this is in the moment the best until we have again the correct permission settings.
By your first data import from 1.9.x are also not all files imported. Here are missing round 300 files. Maybe a timeout problem?
An interupted import process can also be the reason for your permission problems.

Sad to say, but we can not use the 'backuo restoration' fuunction from jD as here are not created the assets items in the moment.
