News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Joomla version 3.3.6
jDownloads version 3.2.18 Beta
Site is currently on the correct URL but offline.

I have been using jDownloads since Monday (8th Dec) and it is just what we were looking for, however I am having a few problems with the permissions. I'm not sure if this is a bug or whether it is my error, so forgive me if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I have read the article "Controlled Access to Categories and Downloads (Permissions & Access Levels)" from http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/create-download-from-front-end-permissions-and-access?category_id=29 and have made sure the jDownloads Component Permissions are set for all user groups to be able to 'Download'. It says 'Allowed' next to 'Downloads' for all user groups. (see attachment 'Component Permissions')

My problem is that when I view the downloads on the website only a Super User seems to be able to download. If I view the page as a registered user, public etc. it says I don't have permission to download the file.

If I go into a particular download (in the administration panel) it says that all users are NOT allowed to download. (see attachment 'Download Permissions') But if I have set the Component Permissions to 'Allowed' shouldn't it pick that up as default?

I understand that there is the option to change the permissions for certain users on certain downloads, but I don't understand why it is not looking at the default Component Permissions.

It seems to work if I change the permissions of an individual download, but I can't expect my client to have to remember to do that each time they add a download.

I'm trying to get my client's website live in the next couple of days, so would appreciate some help as soon as possible.

Many thanks

Yes we have currently a few problems with the permissions handling and works in this days on a solution.
This problem is the only reason that we have not already published a stable release.

Hi Arno,

Thanks for letting me know. We did wonder if that might be the case.

Do you have a newsletter or something that we can sign up to in order to be alerted when you have a new release?

Many thanks

Now, but we will publish it on twitter (@jdownloads).
Also can you see it in the Joomla backend (new updates found...)
