Hi jDownloads Team,
With the next big release in development, I would like to submit a feature suggestion that would greatly improve the user experience for webmasters utilizing external cloud object storage (such as Backblaze B2, Amazon S3, or Cloudflare CDN routing).

Currently, when utilizing external file links, the setting "Is the main file on an external web page" defaults to "No" for every single new download created.

If a webmaster configures the global options to "Send Downloads using the PHP Script = NO" (to offload bandwidth from the origin server directly to a CDN), leaving the individual file setting as "No" scrambles the headers and generates an ERR_INVALID_REDIRECT loop in the user's browser. The file setting must be manually changed to "Yes" on every single download to generate a clean HTTP 302 redirect.

The Request:
Could you add a global configuration toggle in the component options under Global Settings? Something like:
• Default setting for "Is the main file on an external web page": [Yes / No]

Why this is useful:
Many modern webmasters host their large archive assets completely offsite to preserve web host server bandwidth. Having a global option that forces this field to default to "Yes" for all newly created download items would save administrators from having to perform manual edits or run bulk SQL update scripts down the line.

Having a website on a standard host and using offsite downloads through JDownloads was a real step forward for my two gaming sites, there are some quite large files and if some are popular it can put my websites off-line due to bandwidth being exceeded.

Thank you for your hard work on JDownloads, a very flexible and handy addition to a Joomla! website.

Best regards,
INsane (webmaster dodbits.com and sturmbot.org)

EDIT: To Arno... Further to this for persons using JDownloads and persons using external cloud object storage Backblaze B2 "buckets" and also Cloudflare CDN routing.
I made a word document on what I had to do so JDownloads would not trigger any downloads from the external file storage hitting my web hosting account with bandwidth.
After that fix, there was a further issue of pressing the download button, then a new window would open, it was blank. That means the person downloading has to close that window.
The fix was to edit (in my case) JDownloads - Layouts - Files Layouts - my active one was  "Files Layout Full Info v3.9"
Edited the bottom "Use After Layout" box and used a script to cancel the behavior of a unwanted new window during a download of a .zip

I will PM you that guide used to solve it. Not sure you want it but you may be interested in looking at it. It certainly worked for me on Joomla! 6.1.3, jDownloads Version 4.1.7 Stable.
