I keep getting "Category not found" when a Single user tries to download. The Category and the Downloads are visible for the correct user but when clicking on download the error message appears.

In version 3.9 there was a setting to accept SIngle User in Options _ Frontend but I can't find it in 4.0.49, Joomla 5.4.2. I read the documentation but it's overwhelming and the versions 3 and 4 differ.

What I want to achieve is that users should be able to download files in the categories with the same access, i,e, registered should be able to download all from categories set to registered. In addition one specific category is used for Private User Downloads.
How can I activate this?
Please advice.

Is this forum active? I was hoping for some help to get Single user download to work in a fresh installation.
Best regards

Hi
The Single user setting is in User Groups Setting - Group Creation/Editting Settings. Select the User Group then Scroll down to the 'tick box' section and tick 'Single User Access'.
Actually it is probably best to create a specific user group

Thanks Colin. Sorry if I was a bit pushy.
It's already ticked for "Registered", still I get "Category not found" when authorised user (in Registered group) is trying to download. What else should be configured? I.e. the download is visible but not downloadable for the right user.

Hi
The setup is better if you create a new user group rather than use an existing UG like Registered.  There are a some articles that might help.

They are all in the Access Conrols and User Group Permissions.

Specific articles
1. Controlled access to Categories and Downloads

2. Detailed Notes on User Group Settings

Hi. I have difficulties understanding.
How is a separate user group "better"?
The documentation assumes I make special groups for JDownloads but I prefer to use existing groups.
Joomla has very good User Access Groups and my users are already in Registered and Special and adding more groups would complicate settings in Joomla and other extensions. I would like to stick to thoose Joomla default UG.
It's a simple member organisation where we have general documents available for all end membership documents available to single members.
How can I configure this? Should be straight forward but doesn't work for me as the Single user only can view and not download. Where is this controlled?

Managers and Publishers should have access to all, Registered access to specific Category with permission to view and download.
Single Users should have access to view and download.
There is no need for Registered or Single users to upload files, this is only done by admistrators (Special).

Please help

Sven,
First  please note Joomla has Access and User-Groups. They are separate.

Access controlls what a user can see.  User-Groups select what a user can do.
jD has extended the features of User-Groups.

The Joomla User Groups have an hierarchy.  The Root of the UserGroups is the Public UG. The next layers down are Guest, Manager, Registered and Super Users. That means those UGs inherit the 'abilities' of the Public UG. The Administrator is the son of the Manager UG so inherits Public and Manager ablilities.
The Publisher UG inherits Public, Registered, Author and Editor UG ablities.
The SuperUser UG notionally inherits from the Public UG but is actually special as its members can do everything.
Having a separate UG whose parent is the PublicUG means we can give that UG what facilites we require.

jD has extendend the features and capabilities of User Groups.  You can see this on the main backend of Joomla Click on System then components then jDownloads and finally User Groups Settings.  Note that jD gives a Ranking value to each UG. So if a user is a member of more tan one UG it uses the one with the highest jD will use the User Group with highest ranking value. The standard UGs have rankings between 1 and 100.  Typically I create a UserGroup called 'uploaderUG' and give it a ranking of say 132.

In jD if you click on a usergroup it takes you to the user Groups Settings. This has three tabs: Group Settings, GroupCreation/Editting Settings and Limits Settings  The GroupCreation/Editing Settings has numerous options such as 'Display add/upload icon', 'May Select a different Category', 'Default access view level', 'Allowed File Types' and so on.  It also has a 'tickbox' section to select which fields are visible to users creating or editting in the Front End.

There are several articles in the Access and User GroupSettings that are hopefully useful in ths context.
Best Wishes
Colin

Thanks Colin.
I installed the component on a completely different site and it worked as expected, so I think I know how to configure it. I uninstalled from my site and reinstalled with the same result, i.e. the download is visible but not downloadable for the single user ("Category not found"). Can CommunityBuilder or any other component or setting have impact?
Do you mind have a look at my site?

Best regards
