News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Utterly ignorant newbie.
Doing my first upgrade from Joomla 3.10 to 4
Using the instructions here:

https://docs.joomla.org/Joomla_3.x_to_4.x_Step_by_Step_Migration

I'm told:

**Potential Upgrade Issue**
**This extension includes a plugin that could cause the upgrade to fail.

To perform the Joomla upgrade safely you should either upgrade this extension to a version compatible with your target version of Joomla or disable the relevant plugin(s) and check again.

For more information about the relevant plugins please check the 'Live Update' tab.**

I ran the automated up-grader and it pushed the jDownloads version up a few points, but I still get this warning.

What to do?

Do I force ( assuming I can figure out how) the version up to something compatible with Joomla 4?
This makes little sense, as I'm still running 3.10.

Colin:

Thanks very much for the reply!

I got as far as trying to install the newest version of jDownloads, but ran into:

Unknown column 'publish_down' in 'where clause'
and
**Error installing **component****

Can you suggest a next step in debugging this?

Many thanks -

Hi
Looking at the image it has pairs of **.  This is not normal.  Are you running in debug mode?

Yes, I was running in debug mode.
Didn't know that was a problem.
I've turned it off.
I'm now being shown:

Call to a member function setState() on bool.

I have no idea as to what to do next.

Colin:

I'm stuck.
Site is not working.
Is there anything I can do to rescue this?
Start again from a backup?
Will the error happen again if I do?

Many thanks for any help.
