News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Faulty links in overview ?

I run a website for our chamber choir where JDownloads is used for our collection of musical scores. Members can download the scores they need.
I'm still running the site on Joomla 3.10.11 because of upgrade problems. JDownlad version is 3.9.8.7
Recently downloading files is becoming a problem.
A lot of files (pdf mostly) are showing up in the 'overview' screen with a different id then they were entered with.
A recent case: a file is uploaded and entered with an id of 1386; when I look it up in the overview screen the link (anonimized here) shows
https://xxx.nl/index.php/aaa?task=download.send&id=82&catid=4&m=0
The id in this link happens to be identical with the link in rule next to this one.
Title and description are correct.
Can you give me a hint where to look and/or what to do?

Hi,
sorry for the delay.

As you yourself write, jDownloads worked perfectly for you until recently. Offhand, I can't think of any reason why wrong ID parameters could suddenly be transmitted.

My questions:
- Have you recently updated?
- did you yourself (or other extensions) make changes to the DB?
- Can I get access to the backend?

I might also have to look at the database tables of jDownloads.

By the way, you should try to upgrade to version 4 as soon as possible. The Joomla 3.x support will end soon.
Best Regards / Gruß

good morning Arno,
had a family gathering the other day.
I can't give you acccess to the backend because it is no longer there. I did try to upgrade to J4 which went smoothly; then I updated JDownloads after wich the only message was "someting went wrong". The homepage just says 'Error'. :(
For now it means that I salvage what I can before I strip the site altogether. Then I'll rebuild it from the backups. I have plenty of those  ;)
Of course I'll try to get it running on J4 first, but my primary goal is to get it running at all.
It may well be that this is going to solve the initial problem.
Whatever the outcome I'll be back here to let you know.
Thanks so far,
Otto
By the way: Your verification gives me the creeps; I can't tell you how many times I tried to pass it, just because I can't find out what your system expects me tot fill in.

Yesterday was good: I got the site up and running.
As for your suggestion to look in the database tables: you're welcome of course but I'm reluctant to transfer the necessary codes out in the open. Can you give me a way of transferring the information ? Mail for instance.
After rebuilding the site the problem was still there. Especially the later entries show this behaviour: in the frontend (screen 'overview') the id in the link has not the value as shown in the manager screen. In most cases the wrong id happens to coïncide with the code in the next (upper) line of the table.
Hope this information is useful.
