Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Download files from a table

We're JDownloads newbies and we'd like our members and associates to be able to download an image file from a selection presented in an HTML table in the Category short description field.  Attached is an image of what we'd like to present.

If this is possible, we'd appreciate some guidance on the correct format of the download link for each image file.
It would be a bonus if members could select multiple images.

If this requires a new Layout, can the layout apply to just this one category?

Thanks
SJC

Hi
Think this could be done.  Will need a new layout but see below.

My first thoughts assume you have constructed the main part of the picture you showed in an article. And then you just want to add in the row of Download 'symbols' to activate the download.

If this is the case then you can use the Content Plugin
This allows you to select the Category and the Download in each cell - actually setting the default category is only needed once.  See link below for more details.
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/using-the-content-plugin-in-articles

In the first instance use Files Layout 'Files link only v3.2' to get you something.  This will actually show the file title as the link but that can be changed to just a Download pic later.

Also see
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/download-actions-direct-via-summary-page-or-via-download-details
so that you configure say a direct download.

When you have sorted out the main display even though the Download field may be a bit messy then please let me know.  I will do a suitable layout file with just the symbol but will probably need access to your site to get it right but I will ask later if I really need it.

Thanks for the detailed response, Colin.  That sounds like a step in the right direction.

I will check this out and report back.
