News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hello,
Is there any way (e.g. with a fields plugin) to assign jDownloads downloads to an article?
I'm not looking for a content plugin that embeds the download into the article text, but rather a custom field type solution would be ideal.

Hi
In an article you can include a link to a Download. You just need to get the link to the Download.

So create a menu item that lists the Downloads, this could be a specific jD category or all Downloads. Click on the reqired Download and this will create a link.  Just Copy that link into your article using the Insert Link capability

Hello 🙂 Of course, I'm aware of that — but what I'd really like to achieve is a bit different. Instead of inserting it directly into the article content, I'd prefer to attach it to the article as related documents, like metadata. That way, for example, I could handle it in a nicely formatted way under YOOtheme Pro Page Builder.

Hi
When you add a link into an article that actually has nothing to do with jD - it just happens to be link to a jD Download but it could be say a link to another article
Is what you are asking for really an upate to Joomla articles or perhaps an update in Pro Page Builder?
Best wishes

Hi.

No. What I'm looking for is the following solution:

A type=field plugin that makes it possible, when I create a custom field (Content → Fields), to have a field available in the article editor where I can browse through the existing jDownloads downloads and select which one(s) to assign to the article. In this setup, the linked documents would not appear directly as links inside the article content itself, but would instead be stored in the #__fields_values table.

The ACF extension from tassos.gr includes a file upload/attachment field type, but that only handles uploading or attaching files inside the article. What I need is to be able to link already existing jDownloads downloads to an article.

Hi
You could of course ask tassos if they could extend the facility.
You could also make this into a suggestion for an enhancement to jD.

I fail to see why a direct link to the Download is not saisfactory
 Best wishes
