News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hello everyone,

we are currently using jdownloads 3.2  and we have seen that there is new update to 3.9. We have checked the requirements and one of them is MariaDB at least 10.2. We are currently running Ubuntu 18.04 and MariaDB 10.1. The Ubuntu 18.04 will be supported until start of 2023 and it's not so simple to update the db version and we wanted to stay with this version as long as we can since other sites are hosted on the same server and upgrading DB might cause issues to other sites also. Why we need a higher version of DB? Is there a version or a fix that does not need DB upgrade? Is the update to 3.9 critical? I mean are there any security fixes inside? Can we stay with 3.2 version without fear that we are going to have security issues?
Thanks in advance! (I hope this is the right place for my post  ;D)

Hi
Yes you can safely stay with jD 3.2  The only down side is that you will not have access to the new facilities
It is unlikely that upgradinf the Maria dB level will affect existing sites.  Its just that jD needed to have use of the new DB levels.  This will soon be required by Joomla! 4 but jD 3.2 will remain OK but no updates are expected to it.
Best wishesColin
