I am struggling to work out how to upload other file extensions.  The attached file shows the allowed file extensions.  How do I add in other allowable extensions?  When I go to configuration and to the Upload tab it does not seem to coincide with the extensions displayed.  Or do I have to do something at a system level in Joomla to add in new extensions?

Thanks.

Hi
The actual list for front end is in the User Group Settings.  This allows you to set different "Uploader" user groups to have different settings.  You might find the article below useful

Thanks for that.  I have tried to change the settings for the Author user group (which is one of the user groups to which my test account is assigned) but it does not seem to be making any difference.  Even though I add in some new extensions and turn off some fields, the form remains the same.

I have attached a number of screenshots and a PDF of the settings page

Hi
Does the user you have logged in with belong  to other user groups?
Note that a user in the Author group will implicitly belong to the Registered and Public user groups as well. Now to resplve this dilema of  which user group is to be used jDownloads allows each user group to have a Ranking value. There are articles in the documentation that explain about this. The standard user groups are given non zero ranking values, with SuperAdmin being the highest.  So if your user also happens to be say in say the Publisher user group, which has a higher ranking than Author group, then then the settings for the Publisher group would be used.
Actually I council against using any of the Standard user groups because of the implict membership used by Joomla.  A far better scheme is to create a "downloaders" with Registered as its parent except where you want Pubic download of course.  More importantantly create an Uploaders group whose parent is either the Downloaders group or the Registered group.  Then give these two groups a high ranking  value in jDownloads User group settings with uploaders being higher than downloaders.

With this scheme you can allocate users to multiple groups as not all editors, authors, publishers may not be allowed to create or edit Downloads. Similarly users who are able to create or edit downloads sould not always be able to author or similar regular artcles.

Thanks for all this Colin, it is now much clearer to me and I am starting to get it to work the way I want the user to experience it.
