News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

I have returned to using jDownloads after many years, and like a few people, I encountered the issue where the Check Download Area returned a 403 error owing to my using Akeeba Admin Tools.

I have identified a very simple solution, using the Akeeba Admin Tools .htaccess maker to allow the Check Download Area tool to work as intended.

Follow these steps in the Joomla back-end: -

  • Open Akeeba Admin Tools htaccess maker
  • Find the section headed Exceptions from Server Protection
  • In the sub-section "Allow direct access to these files". add a new line with the file reference "administrator/components/com_jdownloads/helpers/scan.php"
  • Save and close htaccess maker

The above change will allow the jDownloads Check Download Area function to preform as intended.

As always, you should assess any and all risks before placing an exception in a security product.

Hope this helps others.

NOTE: I seem to be unable to reply to another users forum post, so started a new thread to provide the solution.

nzrunner,
Does this apply to Admin Tools Core or is the Pro version required?

I only have Admin Tools Pro, so can only confirm that. I assume it is available in Admin Tools Core as well, but haven't currently got the time to spin up a demo site and install Admin Tools Core to check.
