I installed jdownloads when i converted to Joomla 4 and it worked fine. I have only been updating articles so there have been no system modifications. However, I noticed one day that the folders are not displaying the PDFs that should be in them anymore.

The pdfs ARE on my server, in the same place they were forever. Trying to fix this, I've updated to the latest jdownloads and the latest Joomla version, but it doesn't resolve it. It has an error message "Error! Cannot create a categories folder." Also says "Status Download Area: ONLINE"

https://www.think.cz/archives/the-prague-post-archive/ is where they should be. I also noticed that the modules of recently downloaded don't display anymore. Most Recently Downloaded/Top Downloads, even though they are still in a position and active.

I have no idea what this issue can be and appreciate any simple solutions... I have read the forums and this "Cannot create a categories folder" error doesn't appear...

thanks!

Hi
Was this a fresh install  or an update of jDownloads.  If an update what was the initial version?
If it was a fresh install did you ceate a list all categories menu item?
Please look at article https://www.jdownloads.net/documentation/getting-started-v3-9/first-time-installation-jdownloads-4-series.

When you say "The pdfs ARE on my server, in the same place they were forever." does that mean they were already in Downloads?  Are the pdfs in a directory structure?

I will send you a Private Message - these are secure. When you login then alongside your name at the top there is link 'My Messages' - this is where you read and reply to PMs

thanks for replying...
I installed a fresh install back in the day. Then i set up each download, with jpegs, etc. Then left it to set.

I then noticed that while the PDFs are showing results in google (see PDF results here: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-e&q=nato+site%3Athink.cz) they no longer show in the 'by year' category folders. I didn't have time when I noticed to deal with it, but when I did, I clicked the 'update' link in the component, downloaded com_jdownloads_4_0_43_stable and installed it.

No fix.

I see them in the file block on my server but i actually cannot find the path to them ATM, if you know where they would have uploaded, I can double check. The control panel for each file shows its presence, like "Night_and_Day-2013-04-03.pdf"

I will reply in the morning...

Hey there,
I had a similar issue with jDownloads on Joomla 4 a while back. Here are a few things you might want to check:

1. Permissions: Make sure the folders where your PDFs are stored have the correct permissions. Sometimes, updates can mess with folder permissions. Set them to 755 or 775 and see if that helps.

2.Folder Ownership: Ensure that the web server has ownership of the folders. If you have SSH access, you can use chown to set the correct ownership.

3. Configuration: Double-check the jDownloads configuration settings. Sometimes, after an update, settings can revert to default or change unexpectedly.

4. Error Logs: Check your server error logs for more detailed information. This might give you a clue about what's going wrong.

5.Database: Sometimes, database issues can cause such problems. Run a database check and repair from the Joomla backend.
6. Reinstall jDownloads: If nothing else works, try uninstalling and then reinstalling jDownloads. Make sure to backup your data before doing this.

7. Extensions Compatibility: Ensure that all your extensions are compatible with the latest Joomla version. Sometimes, conflicts can cause unexpected behavior.

8. Cache: Clear your Joomla and browser cache. Sometimes, old cache files can cause display issues.

If none of these solutions work, you might want to reach out to the jDownloads support team directly. They might have more specific insights into this issue.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Cheers! David :-)
