News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

Hi,

We use jdownloads for many years and are very happy with the program until now it did its job perfect.

At this moment we have a problem with our download site. After 2 days searching we need some help.

When we try to download a file out of jdownloads all works until the very last moment, so you say Save file, it makes a temporary file with the correct name, it shows 0KB but never downloads further than this and ends up in an error, when we do this from Hikashop, so we don't use the jdownloads then the same file at of course the same server works perfect. Strange is that .exe file or a .pdf file is perfectly downloading from jdownloads.

1.   Tested with Firefox and Chrome.
2.   For all maps as well as category maps and downloads all rights are the same, double checked as well as front end downloads as the jdownloads files
3.   From the front end (not out of jdownloads, so direct from out from Joomla hikashop) you can download .zip, .pdf,
4.   From jdownloads you can download .pdf .exe
5.   From jdownloads you cannot download .zip .mp4
6.   From jdownloads, when you switch ON that mp4 can be opened in the browser then the video works
7.   Before, we could download .zip files without any problem. Du to that we don't daily check this and our download site is seldom used, we do not know, when this was broken.
8.   We tried to place an extension type in the configuration by the upload .zip, what we don't use but you never know  ;D9.   We checked Joomla MIME type .zip and server MIME type and request filtering all is correct would be strange if not due to that .zip download from the front end works
10.   We reinstalled the latest version 3.2.46
11.   Joomla is updated to the latest version
12.   All plugins are updated to the latest version
13.   Servers updated to the latest version
14.   Server runs PHP 7.0.6
15.   We think you can exclude the server and Joomla due to that .zip can be perfectly downloadable from the front end and also partly jdownloads due to that .exe and .pdf still works
16.   We think you can exclude rights because the same .zip works at the front end and a .exe or .pdf works at front end and jdownloads
17.   Yes we looked in all jdownloads manuals
18.   Yes we searched in the forum

Hi
This sounds very strange, and you have looked at many possibilities.  All the obvious things have been looked into. There must be something site specific that is causing the problem as it is not general.
One of my test sites is using PHP 7.0.5, Joomla! 3.6.5 and jD 3.2.46  - we have not validated with PHP 7.1 yet.  Arno has test site with PHP 7.0.9.
Would it be possible to PM super Admin login details so we can look?

Hi Colin,

I really appreciate your time and interest, as you can see in the list we tried to do our best. And a second opinion is something we really like to have now  ;D

We have a second server for experiments, it is a virtual server (VMware) we made a snapshot so you're allowed to do whatever is needed, if necessary we'll place the snapshot back. It is not on the fastest line but it works.

PM will be sent.

Hi Welly,
I think you should check what you have changed in the last time.
As you say it self:
QuoteWe use jdownloads for many years and are very happy with the program until now it did its job perfect.

So a new plugin could be as example the reason for this new problem.

But when the test site is ready we can see what we can do.

A temporary solution could be to deactivate the 'Use PHP Script' in the configuration (see pic below). But only when ALL your files in jDownloads shall be free downloadable.

Hi Arno,

Thanks for your reply.

1.   I think going back is not an option. We can search by placing back-ups back to the moment when this was working or not but my idea is that it is something in jDownloads that was compatible for .zip with an older version of PHP and Joomla. So going back is interesting to find what and when it worked but I think we already can pinpoint where it goes wrong. Be aware in the last 6 months PHP 7 came in what made Joomla 10x faster so going back for us is the same as switching OFF internet and bring paper post around  ;D
2.   When we switch OFF PHP the download goes to the direct path of the root of our IIS server and IIS don't allows anybody to go there so this is not an option. When we allow this I am afraid we got a lot of very unwanted visitors there  ;D
3.   I was not quite clear in my response the test site was direct available and in the PM to Colin you find the data I now send a PM to you.

Hi Wella,
Quote...but my idea is that it is something in jDownloads that was compatible for .zip with an older version of PHP and Joomla.
Many users works with jDownloads and PHP 7.0.x and it works as expected. So i think not that this could be the reason. But we will see...

PHP 7.1 is not supported yet.

Thanks for the data.
