Title: protect direct link
Post by: akublik on 02.06.2016 23:43:38
Hello, I have just installed your component  on my site, files are protected to be accessed only from registered users. But when  I use direct link to the files on external Webpage the files are downloaded, how can I protect the directory and the files?

Andre,
I do not quite understand! So excuse the questions.

Just to clarify I think you are saying it is OK for Downloads on your Server but not it is not OK for files located on another web accessible file storage which  are identified as an External File Link or a Mirror site when you create a Download?  I will call these 'external' files.  Please let us know if this is correct.

When you say 'protected' do you mean that only Registered  users have Permission to Download?
Also that view Access is set to  Registered?

Or do you mean that you have used Config - Security tab - "Protect your Download-directory?" and  "Activate Hotlinking protection?" and that is not working for 'external' files ?

When I looked at your website as a Guest I could not see any Downloads listed.  Is that what you want or do you want  non-registered users to see the listing but not to be able to Download?

Hi Colin, I mean we have used Config - Security tab - "Protect your Download-directory" and  "Activate Hotlinking protection" and that is not working for the files , when you copy ad paste the link in a new browser con have acceses to the file (in this case a PDF).

The files are stored in the same site.
I can send you user and password to check back and fronend

All is correct - see pic. Please make sure (before you start the test) that you are not logged in.

Hi
If I do as you say then I get a nice error message.  As I was using same PC I ensured Browser Cache was cleared to simulate a new user.  Also tried with Chrome as well as Firefox
