Title: Using sliders for file pictures
Post by: Relinquish on 24.02.2016 07:06:44
Hi,

I've been trying to get a slider to display the screenshots for a file automatically in the description. All of the top sliders require you to add the images before adding the shortcode and using the jdownloads placeholder variables does not work with them.

Is there a good customizable slider that supports jdownloads? http://smartslider3.com  supports dynamically importing images from other plugins, but doesn't support jdownloads.

Hi,
you could try it maybe with a special slider plugin for Joomla?  ::)

What do you mean?

A slider built for Joomla? That's what I've been trying...

Hi
All of the sliders I am aware of either have their own database or at the very least require all the images in their own directory.  jD places the references to the images in the jD database and holds all the images in a single directory.  So there is a basic incompatibility.
You can of course use a slider plugin and include that in the description part of a Download.  See for example
http://www.jdownloads.com/index.php/downloads/download/9-layout-development-for-v3-2/32-layouts-on-desktop-pc.html
where a plugin slide show was used.  You could  use the plugin from the Smart Slider but you have to build your own set.

The only way I have found to do it automatically is to create a CSS3 slider and insert the jDownloads screenshot placeholders inside the slider's HTML in the layout.

It's a shame that slider plugins are not supported, they really improve the description page.

Hi
Could you please PM me more details as I had not thought of that way. Maybe a link to your front end?
This is I suspect similar to the way we do video and audio so if it is then there is not so much code. The idea of supporting a particular Joomla! plugin was not appealing but a CSS3 slider is interesting.

PS just done a google search and seen some examples - looks good
PPS We are very busy at present getting the new div based layouts in place for the next release but after that we will be reviewing feature requests

QuoteIt's a shame...
Please understand that every user has other priorities and other wishes what a download manager should do.
So we can not add all possibilities. But feel free to add it and send us your modifikation. Then can we check whether it can be useful also for other users.  :)

Edit:
Colin was faster.  ;D
