Was this a completely new install or an update? Or are you migrating from a jD 1.9 series?
If it is a completely new install then remove jD - see http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/how-to-uninstall-all-of-jdownloads

Go to the jD configuration tab: Plugins and select another layout from the list.
