Title: pdf upload in frontend
Post by: Komet64 on 26.06.2015 15:58:46
Hi,

I`m new here and started testing jdownloads on a website (PDF downloads for restricted users) and it works fine.

My client is not used to work in the backend but he have to upload regulary new PDF-files. is there a simple way to upload new files (in a special category) in the frontend?

Kind regards, Klaus

Hi Klaus
Yes it is normal to use the front end to upload files to make a Download.
There are several articles that might help. Think the start point would be
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/create-download-menu-item
Another is
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/introduction-to-user-group-settings

There are many other articles to help.  If you get stuck please ask again so we can assist.

Hi Colin,

I find the following article which describes upload preferences I need: http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/tab-uploads

But when I click on the tab Upload in jDownloads I don`t find these preferences (picture attached). Where can I find General Settings and Frontend upload form configuration?

Hi,
the settings for the PLUpload script are only usable in backend (read the hint in the top from the settings on your pic). See pic.

Hi Klaus
The article you are referring to is for the jD 1.9 series.  I think you are using the jD 3.2 series.  Is that the case?  If you are not using jD 3.2 series on Joomla! 3.x then I would recommend to Migrate - see articles on Migration such as
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/how-to-upgrade-jdownloads-component-from-1-9-x-to-latest-3-x-version

The various articles for jD 3.2 series are at http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/category/jdownloads-version-3-2
Most of the things for customising the upload form are in User Groups Settings.

The following articles may prove helpful
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/introduction-to-user-group-settings
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/which-user-group-is-used?category_id=29
http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/create-download-menu-item

There are also settings in Configuration on the Control Panel

Hi there,

in the last paragraph of this article http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/create-download-menu-item is mentioned to check the "Select Main File" checkbox - where exactly is this to be found?
Thanks for a hint, regards, Rabendoktor

Hi
You will find that in User Groups Settings in the Group Creation/Editing Settings in the 'tick box' settings section - it is quite a way down.Note you need to set this and other item for every User Group that is allowed to create/edit Downloads from the front end.
Articles below might helphttp://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/introduction-to-user-group-settingshttp://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/which-user-group-is-used
