Title: Include All Subcategory's Files When the Parent Category is Selected
Post by: ITcrackerjack on 10.04.2015 00:34:46
Assuming this example category/subcategory structure:

- Cat1
--subcat1
--subcat2

When I'm displaying files for Cat1, I would also like it to include in that list all files in subcat1 and subcat2.

Possible already? Feature request? Something a competent programmer like myself could change without a lot of hassle if pointed in the right direction?  I am aware that if I change the PHP it would get overwritten with an update. I would just document my changes.

Thanks for a great Component Arno!

EDIT: Reading through Feature Requests, I came upon this one. It looks like it used to do this so maybe I'm missing something?  http://www.jdownloads.com/forum/index.php?topic=7469.0

EDIT 2: Maybe each category could have the option of also listing subcategory files as well.

Hi
Just seen anotther post making much the same request. One way would be option on mnu item that lists Downloads from a
category to have option to include those in its descendant sub categories.  This is non trivial as each branch has to be followed and account has to be taken of both Permissions and View Access Levels.

Please add to suggestion list

I agree it could be non-trivial.  However, did you see my edits? It looks like it used to do that so I thought maybe I was missing something.  Yeah, I did see the other post (in fact I commented on it). But he had two issues it seems and since one of them was the same thing I was looking for I figured another topic was in order.

So should I make this a feature request? Is it confirmed that not including subcategory files is indeed the intended behavior?  According to the link I posted earlier that it was supposed to do what I am wanting. So I'm wanting to make sure I'm not missing a setting or something.  http://www.jdownloads.com/forum/index.php?topic=7469.0

Hi
Yes please make this as a feature request.  The topic you referred to is from the backend selecting the category to list, and that does list all downloads in the sub categories as well.  What I think you mean is a mernu item that will list all downloads in a category and its sub categories.  Maybe a variation/option of the Single Category menu item.

Ahh, I see.  I totally missed that. Thanks for clarifying. I'll put in the feature request.
