Title: Public download not working now
Post by: neilmac on 17.02.2015 18:05:43
This has been working fine but won't work now. Maybe updating the jdownload component but can't be sure what has stopped it.

Using Joomla 3.3.6
JDownloads 3.2.25 beta

I have some files that public visitors could download recently but they now say  -

'Notice
You do not have permission to download the requested file.
Contact the website operator if you are sure that this is incorrect.'

All these files are set to 'Public' the containing categories are set to 'Public' and the permissions for each file are set to 'Allow' public download.

So I am stuck as to what to do next - any ideas please?

Can you send me login data for your backend via PM?

Hi,
thanks for the login data.

I think that your problems has nothing to do with the last update.

When i checked your permission settings, so are this for me a little bit messy.

In the global component settings has only the author, editor, publisher and super users group the permissions to download a file.
Settings for categories and Downloads are very different.

As result:
- visitors can download only 1 file (see first pic).

Registered users can download only 8 files (see example in second pic).

All other files are only downloadable from authors or higher.
Is this correct?

Hi
If you are setting up downloader user groups and uploader user groups it can have unintended consequences if you use Editor, Author or similar as the parent group.  It is best to only use the Registered Group as the parent of the tree.  The problem is that you can inadvertently allow users to edit or similar other articles and so on.

Please see article http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/controlled-access-to-categories-and-downloads  It has several examples - is also being actively updated (at end)
