Title: Additional files in Jdownloads?
Post by: romagromov on 21.01.2015 17:15:21
Is it possible in new Jdownloads to upload several files for one item?

For example:

FireFox.
Description.

Files:
FireFox for windows.
FireFox for linux.
FireFox for mac os x.

Hi
What I think you are asking is "within jDownloads can the user select one of many files".  The answer is yes by using checkboxes.  The Category Description would describe the features of the family 'Firefox' say.  Then that category would have three downloads: FireFox for windows; FireFox for linux;FireFox for mac os x.  The user would be directed to the category of course.

So there is strictly one file per download, but it could be a zip or rar type with multiple files, but I do not think that is what you mean.  If the user selects multiple files then jDownloads 'wraps them up' in a zip so it does become one physical download.

If you do not want people to download multiple files then use same idea but without checkboxes

This is bad way. I already have 100 categories like Antiviruses, Browsers, Graphic Editors e.t.c.

Other download components allow to upload several files to one item.

In your solution I need create thousands categories. It's not possible. Any category should have several pics, description, additional fields, e.t.c - It's unreal...

Hi
I am trying to understand and I appreciate that Engish is not your native tongue. But why do you make things sound so agressive?

You can have multiple pictures etc in one download, but the download is one file, which can be constructed from many files.  You have to put in the descriptions, pictures and so on no matter what organisation is used.  JDownloads makes it simple and flexible to maintain and update. What is wrong with a category such as firefox as described.  Perhaps I do not understand so maybe you could construct me an example.  I am only trying to help.

I?m sorry, I'm not make things sound agressive.
That's because I really do not know English very well.
I think  if I'll create thousands categories, categories hierarchy will looks very difficult.

Look how it made in other component:

Clean and easy. One item with several files. User can use dropdown menu to make choise for file version.

Also:

One item and several download links.

One more:

I explain.

If I will use, for example, category "FireFox" and it will have 3 files (downloads) Windows, Mac, Linux I can't have Rating for FireFox as Item.
I can't get number of downloads for FireFox - only for Windows, Mac, Linux - separately.
I can't set version, License, and many other thing. Because сategory don't have this fields, that have Item.
I hope you understand me  :)

I think, that ability to upload several files (versions, types, no matter) - it will be elegant and very useful option.

Ok I see what you mean, and yes it could be useful for many people.  Will add to suggestion list.  But it will not be looked at until after we have stable solution.

Only as a small hint:
It is possible via the jdownloads content plugin to view (as example) Inside from a Download Files from another Downloads. Also from a complete category when required. But it is not possible to assign to a Download more as one file.

We will in the next version 3.3 add again new features to make jDowloads better and better. But it can never be perfect for ALL requirements.

Hi Arno!

As I already wrote - this is very major option.

I know about content plugin, but using this plug-in does not solve the problem.

I can't get number of downloads for main download item - only for additional items - separately.
Also this is very inconvenient - to create additional items.
I can only add them in content area - not near download area....

I'm ready to donate for this option.
How much it will cost?

Hi
As noted earlier the important aspect at the moment is a stable jD2.5 & 3.2 series.  The enhancement you are requesting is non trivial and may require structural changes.  It will take much software resource.  You have lived with the jD 1.9 series for some time, and have a very effective web site.  There have been significant enhancements in the present version, and most bugs have been eliminated.  Yes no doubt others remain and we are trying to eliminate them. The comprehensive nature and huge variety of options makes debugging jD challenging. Usually if the bug can be reproduced then it is quickly fixed in most cases. Of course some bugs are 'reluctant' to be thoughlly 'cleansed'.

Please could I ask you to be a bit more patient. When working with people in a venture such as jD evryone is equal, we all passionately believe our own website is the the 'most important one'. Another way of looking at this is that some people often treat problems in two categories: important problems; and other peoples problems!

In the time I have spent thinking about whether I should reply or not, and then thinking how I could write a reply, I could possibly have helped solve someone's problem. Having seen your site and the tremedous effort you have obviously made I appreciate your keenness.

Hello team,

I'm a newbie in this forum so i would like to thank author for this wondurful and useful component !
I post my request here, because i think it's the right topic for my question.

So, i have an little doubt about Jdownload feature. Indeed, i would like to add several files in the same download.
In my website, Jdownload component is used to download video and music files. I plan to have this structure : main category -> subcategory -> download -> download detail with possibilities to download several files (2 videos/music files in seperates zip files)

I don't find any option to add more than one file in the download page in admin panel.
Have i an possibility to realize my request?

Advance thanks for your reply, and apologize my poor moderate english.

Regards,
Saamy

Dear developers!
I just want to know do you have the plan to add the ability to upload multiple files?
If not, I'm going to use the Mirror fields fot this.

But I have some issues:

1. It does not work on summary page.

2. It displays text mirror on the buttons, but it should diplays title of additional downlods

May be it shout have additional fileds in admin

Good news, that when users download files via mirror links it adds data to file downloads counter   :)

@saamy
You asked if it is possible to download several files in a single download action.
QuoteIndeed, i would like to add several files in the same download.
You can do this from the front end by using a layout with check boxes.  jD shows the list of selected files in the Summary layout and then creates a single zip file to download them all.  The Download Details view is specific to a single file.  The checkbox layouts are readily modified to add more details so you could make the extra information visible in the main view if you like.  You should perhaps think of the Details page as an opportunity to provide more information.  What might be nice would be an option on a Download details view to have an 'add to my basket' type operation.

You mention
Quotepossibilities to download several files (2 videos/music files in seperates zip files)
.  Why multiple deliveries?  Browsers do not handle multiple ' downloading deliveries' but just one at a time.  And why would anyone want a multiple delivery?  Perhaps I misunderstand.

@romagromov
I think we are being confused by 'language'!  Also I think I may be misunderstanding.  The 'language' challenge is the difference between a Download in jD terms and 'downloading' as an action by a browser.  Just for clarity a jD Download comprises descriptions, previews , sample images and of course the file that is to be downloaded.

Now browsers only download one item at a time.  What you are requesting is a summary page that has a list of the files from selected downloads, which is already available by using check-box layouts.  But presently jD creates a single zip file of these 'files' and downloads it.  What you are requesting is that the Summary page list makes each file individually downloadable.  So the use clicks on each one in turn until all are done individually, or exits.  After each download the list of the remaining items is represented or the entire list is represented with those already downloaded suitably marked.

Is the above a summary of your request?

I think this is not a good idea and would not (really) work.

Better is to insert different links to different files via the jD content plugin in description!

If will use jD content plugin in description:

1. I need to create new hidden category for additional downloads.
2. If users will download using this link - downloads counter to the main file will not increase.

Ok, you have left me no choice  :(

I began to use mirror links as additional downloads.

You can see how it looks on page with PhotoStage Slideshow

but I am very limited in actions.

At first, I have only 3 links for files: main and 2 mirrors.

Is it possible to add  more mirrors?

Second thing. When user press on main file - he goes to summary page. But when user press on mirror links - downloading begin immediatly, without summary page.
