We want to set up a download area where we can host white papers for several of our clients.
We want a page that lists all white papers without the need for logging in. When a user clicks to download we want them redirected to a login/registration page specific to the client whose white paper they have clicked on (unless they have already registered and logged on). Which will then start the download.
We want people to be able to register for multiple groups using the same email address.
Can we do this using jDownloads and if so how? I have read the FAQs and installed the component. I can get it to display an "all categories" page but little else.
Any help would be gratefully received.

You can do just about most of what you want. See for example http://www.deejayportal.com/download/acapellas/a
Look under downloads. Actually there are various ways of doing most of what you want. A good feature is that the descriptions which can optionally be included in a Download could be say the Summary. These are searchable so users can find things if they only have some key phrase or similar.
Doing the login in the middle is not a viable option. It is better the user is prompted to click elsewhere
