Title: 404 error in jDownloads Featured module following migration to J4 [Solved ]
Post by: dyfrig on 25.07.2023 14:50:12
Summary - not featured module problem but there was no 'List all jDownloads Categories ' menu item present or any other jD menu item.
ColinM

Following the migration of a site to Joomla 4 Jdownloads is not fully working. I thought it was originally working on my development server but I may not have fully tested it as it isn't working on that server or my live server now. Most things seem OK but I have a jDownloads featured module.  The list of featured downloads in the specified category displays correctly but clicking on one of them produces a 404 error.

Hi
Thought we had fixed jD Featured module - but forgot to update the topic!

Have just tested and all was OK but that could be because of the parameters I set up.

Attached are 4 pics - the first 3 show the patameter settings and the 4th is the view on the screen

Could you please advise your settings

I'm sending you copies of the settings and the display as you did. What I have is the jDownloads Featured module embedded in an article using Modules Anywhere. I wondered if that was the issue but I experimented with it in another position and had the same problem. So the display screenshot shows article content above and below.  The red outline is my addition to the display screenshot showing the jModules Featured module area. It looks fine but when I click on one of the downloads I get the 404 error.

Something odd is going on. This module started working on my training site (an identical copy in a subfolder of the live site). To my knowledge I had done nothing which would have caused it to start working. In fact I think this has happened with other jDownloads modules/meu items etc.

When I checked on the live copy it still isn't working.

I will pm credentials for both sites to Colinm for you to check.

I've discovered what caused it to start working.  I had added an additional menu item as part of my diagnostics which was to a jdownloads single category (same category as featured module).  Even though I wasn't actually using that menu item it seemed to make the featured module work.  I don't want this menu item so it's not a solution.

Hi
Have just been looking at your site and think I have located the "challenge".  There was no jD 'List All Categories' menu item so I have added them in both languages, with Association, as hidden items.

Awaiting results of testing as there were other aspects to resolve.

I simply cannot understand why in such a case, the corresponding note in the backend is always 'overlooked'? Do I really have to make it even bigger?

(moved to 'General')

I don't know about others but in my case I think it's because there doesn't seem to be any reason for me to visit the control panel.  All jDownloads functions are directly accessible from the admin menu on both J3 and J4. Everything worked on my J3 site although I now see that the warning was there as well.  Since theJ4 version, at least in my case, seems more sensitive to this requirement perhaps include it in the upgrade documentation.

Okay, thanks for the hint. In this case I will add the hint in the future on all main pages in the jD backend. In the documetation should this hint already exist.

Hi
The documentation on upgrading from jD3.9 to jD4 and the first time instalation did note that that a jD 'List all categories' menu item is required.  But in both articles I have now emphasied the need
