Download link missing
« on: 20.03.2017 23:09:16 »
When I upload a document to jdownloads:downloads, it would give me a link that I could provide to a user. For example, it would look like this: http://websitename.com/my-download/send/9-public-user/1450-results-e121512.html. Then the user would be able to copy and paste the link and in 10 seconds the document would download.  This option has disappeared and I do not know how to get it back.

Hi
I assume you have created a category called 'downloads' where you create the Downloads and are using a menu item with alias called my-download.

Have you changed jd Config - Frontend tab field "Use files title as download link?" It should be Yes.
Which layout are you using?
Typically the expected format of the link would be something like:
http://<your-site>/my-downloads/send/12-topcat-sub1-sub2-sub3/34-afternoontea.html

Yes, the frontend tab field "use file title as download link" is checked as yes. But I don't know where to go to see what layout its in or how to even add the layout and see it on the admin side. Even when I try to generate a link for example : http://sitename.com/my-download/send/9-public-user/ then add file name .html it doesn't work.

Hi
The  link such as : http://sitename.com/my-download/send/9-public-user/ with added Download name also needs the Download id as I illustrated. It is also not the name  you uploaded but the alias of the download that was created.  So for instance a Download that contains say a file called say 'Cream Cakes.pdf' could be in a Download title called 'Afternoon Tea'. This would then have an alias such as 'afternoon-tea' and its id might be say 57.
The whole reference would be http://sitename.com/my-download/send/9-public-user/57-afternoon-tea.html

Incidentally the need for including the id's is one can have identically named categories and files. Without the id's jD would need the entire directory chain.

Also as another thought have you enabled hot-linking protection?  That would stop the download by using the link externally.

Also I am puzzled why you should be sending a link to a user rather than set up a conventional link that users may click on.  Is it a case of protection/security, payment or similar? I ask this because there are mechanisms in jD to handle these aspects.

Hi,

Yes I have figured out how to manually create this link and you are right the id is necessary in the link. Before something happened I would upload a file in jdownloads and then it would show up in the downloads lists and this link would be next to the title name. Now it is a little time consuming to have to create a link for every download. The hot-link protection is enabled. We send users results to the work they send us through this link for protection and then there are some users that can just log in and download these files themselves instead of me sending them a link. So for easy access we send the link. If you know where I can go to have this link automatically be created again please let me know and I appreciate all your help.

Thank You

Hi
A much quicker way to find the link is toshow the downloads in the front end and the copy the link from the title.  If you set the view access on the menu item to super user then only you will see the menu link type List All Categories

This was not a Bug so I have moved it to general
