Timeout Problem on Upgrade
« on: 13.09.2015 03:00:38 »
Trying to upgrade from 1.9.1.6 to 2.5.28 and getting this message when trying to convert existing data.

This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of this web site to increase 'Connection Timeout'

I've tried increasing php memory from 128M to 512M and timeout from 30 secs to 300 secs. URL is https://xxx.com/administrator/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&task=tools.runOldVersionUpdate Can I run from an SSH session? What is done by that script?

Hi
If a migration fails then it may have left behind some jD backup tables in the database. So use your backup to start again from the jD1.9.1.6 verion

I don't understand what you mean by this.

Are you saying uninstall 2.5.28 and reinstall 1.9.1.6? I was installing 2.5.28 because the latest 1.9.1.6 did not work after installing it over the same version from last year. And if I do go back to 1.9.1.6 then what? Won't all the tables etc be in an unknown state?

Hi
Have you looked at the documentation?

http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/how-to-upgrade-jdownloads-component-from-1-9-x-to-latest-2-5-version
I do not mean  reverting Joomla! But hopefully you took a backup and if so to start again from the jD1.9 version

Please let me know the situation in a little more detail
Thanks
Colin

Hi,

I've tried increasing php memory from 128M to 512M and timeout from 30 secs to 300 secs.
What for a setting exactly?

When you have a lot of Categories and Downloads you should use settings like this on my screenshot.
When this not helped try the update process on a local xampp installation.
But first read the documentation about the update process. And please note that an update to jD 3.2.x and Joomla 3.x would be more useful.

Sorry but I can't see a screenshot on your post.

I've gone back to JD 1.9.1.6 and restored all the tables from backup. Still times out where it never did before. There are 22,000 files available for download. I noticed that I forgot to disable the old scan.php as a cron job which runs every hour. I suppose if I was in the middle of an upgrade when cron ran the old version scan.php it could scramble things somewhat?

1. sorry for the missing pic
2. i'm not sure that you can import 22,000 files but you can try it (with very large server settings) - alternate  you should use for it a local xampp installation - see documentation

I have no idea what xampp is but from the sound of it I have to run software on my own PC. It seems as if you are saying you cannot do an upgrade of jDownloads if you have a lot of files.
Isn't that kind of crazy?

That is not what i says. You can upgrade but you must use other server settings. If this not possible (on server with restrictions) , you have the possibility to do this in a local installation on your PC. Afterwards can this upgraded data moved to the server.

Are you sure that you have read the upgrade instructions in the documentation?
And why will you upgrade to Joomla 2.5 and not to 3.x?

When you will, i can do the upgrade process for you. I need for this case a backup from the jDownloads old data (1.9.x). Created with the jD backup function. And the download link for it can you send me via PM.

By the way, i know a user which has succesful upgraded to jD 3.2 and he had more as hundred thousand files. But the upgrade process had lasted some hours. So your 300 second setting is nearly nothing.

The problem seems to be that upon doing the upgrade the configuration is set automatically try and index all the files which then times out.

By changing the configuration in the database I have been able to override the automatic processing and replace it with a cron job to run scan.php.

All is now OK. Might be worth including an option to allow this override in future releases.

Hi
That sounds very useful.  It would help me in the documentation if you could give more details of what you did.

Thanks
Colin
