Problem search jdownloads
« on: 02.04.2015 22:29:22 »
Dear, please help

I have joomla 3.4.1 and 3.2.31 jDownloads I installed, I created category, climbed files without problems, but the search does not allow us to locate documents ... besides the search always brings the same text as search.

Please your help in order to help us stop operating properly the search engine.

I appreciate your help.

greetings.

Hello !
I have the same problem. I have joomla 3.4.1 and the last jDownloads version 3.2.31.
I well have activated the jDownloads search plugin but when I do a search the result is exactly the same with or without this plugin.
The result is a link to category where is the download but not to the file.

For test purpose, I renamed by FTP on my server the directory /plugins/search/jdownloads to /plugins/search/jdownloads_test without effect or errors !....
In my case, it seems that this plugin is ignored !

Can you help me ? What is wrong ?

Thanks
Kind regards

Hi
As yet I have not updated my jD test site to Joomla! 3.4.1 But I will do so to be in the same environment.

In the meantime could you please advise what Search you are using?
Is it the Search button on the jDownloads listing?
Or are you using the Standard Joomla! Search?

Hi !
With jDownloads search plugin enabled :

If I use the Standard Joomla Search, the link to the result is correct and it point to the right link of download (ex. link :xxx/documentation/download/154-thomson/663-tx807cs).

If i use the Search button on the jDownloads listing, the result is a link to the category where is the download ((ex. link : xxx/documentation//category/154-thomson).

Kind regards

Hi
Have now set test site to Joomla! 3.4.1
If I search either with the Joomla! search or with jDownloads search on a listing page I get a direct link to the download details page in both cases.
So I am presently unable to reproduce the problem ???

Do you get a difference between public users and registered users?

Could you perhaps PM me a link to your website front end. It may be either some config issue or a menu issue.

Thank you very much for your reply,

I have joomla and languages in Spanish, when installing jDownloads also lower its translation to Spanish.

given the problem clone the system and proceeded to remove jDownloads and languages, then download and install again and the search engine works 100%, so apparently the problem was with the language file.

Thank you for your attention given and all the help and effort with me.

many, thank you very much

@Dan21170
Have seen problem on your site Joomla gives direct reference to the download but searching with the jDownloads button lists all the documents in the category containing the required download

If I search for '25DG170G' the actual code generated is below
jD Search : TX807CS Manuel de service

Joomla search: TX807CS Manuel de service

Both are using the same plugin.

Will need to think more on this :o ??? ::)

@mvenegas'
Pleased to hear you sorted out the Search. Did you re-install Spanish for jDownloads? I think you are indicating that was the problem.

Hi,
Could you please create and publish two jDownloads menu items please. One should be the type List All Categories and the other should be List All Downloads. Then of course see what happens to the search.

@Colin

I have created two jDownloads menu items as you can see on my site (see on left column).
When I do a search, its exactly the same problem, no change.

If I unpublish the plugin, Joomla search don't find '25DG170G' but jDownloads search always find a link to the right category containing the required download !

It seems that Joomla search use the plugin but jDownloads search don't use the plugin for the search ! :-[

Hi
Apologies for not getting back sooner but I have been away - and then it fell off my list!! :(
I have just checked your site and it seems both searches now work. Noticed that in where I expect the Joomla! search it puts the search term into the jD search box.

Is problem solved?.

Hi

Sorry but the problem is not solved !

For example I search for the word : 25DG170G :

Joomla search found one link to direct reference to the download (http://www.xxxxxx.com/list-all-categories/download/154-thomson/663-tx807cs)

jDownloads search also found one link but to a link to the right category containing the required download (http://www.xxxxxx.com/documentation/category/154-thomson)

Strange !

Daniel

Daniel,
I cannot reproduce the problem but I see it on your site. Have even tried setting my site to French as we have found a language dependent problem elsewhere (not in search) tried.

It may be a config difference in jDownloads config. So could you perhaps create a backup using Tools - Backup (please also tick the box) and post it here. I can then compare it to my settings. For security you could send it in a zip with a password and then PM me the password. Alternatively if you PM me admin access details I can do it myself.

By matching to your setup I was able to reproduce the problem. For your reference I attach a file showing the 18 differences. Now to find the one or ones that trigger the problem.

Daniel,
Have found the problem. ;) Or at least a temporary cure. ;D
One needs to set the Config - Front End tab - ""View Download detail page?" set to Yes. This takes one to the Summary page for that Download

As you know, if it is set to No then one gets the listing of the Category that contains the Download. Rather the downloading should be initiated without seeing the Summary page.

PS will move this thread to Bugs

@Colin

Colin,

Thank for your work !

I temporaly have set option "View Download detail page to "on" until the bug is fixed in a new release.
Very pleased with your support, I would make a donation via paypal for the developement of this extension.

Have a good day

Daniel.

Hi Guys,
I do not understand what I should change here. Where is here a bug?
When a user has deactivated the "View Download detail page" option, i can not use it for the links in the search results.

Hopefully the notes below summarise the situation as I see it. The jDownloads search plugin is of course enabled.

If one uses the Standard Joomla Search, the resultant link points directly to the download.

Using the jD Search button
1) If "View Download detail page is "on" then the link in the search result points to the Summary Page for the Download, which is correct
2) But if "View Download detail page is "off" then the link in the search result points to the category which contains the Download so it shows all the Downloads in that category.

I would have thought in case 2 it would point directly to the Download as is the situation with the Joomla! search.

Then has the plugin a bug! When the 'view details page' is not used, we can not create links to him.
If they do, then this is a contradiction. Or we must give the admins a hint in the description from this option. ::)

Edit:
Maybe should we discuss a little bit about the option: "View Download detail page".
My opinion is, that it makes only then sense to deactivate this option, when all Downloads have stored only very low informations in the db.
As example only the title, size, date etc. but not descriptions.
