Would it be possible to hide some (in my case, lots of) fields for frontend upload?

The users in my website don't have a clue about most of the fields in the upload form, would be nicer if they don't even view them.

Hi
This is a feature of jDownloads already! :) ;)
Please see http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/introduction-to-user-group-settings  The last part of the article is about which questions are to be shown to which user group in the FrontEnd  Edit and Create forms.

Also see http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/which-user-group-is-used?category_id=29  which talks about setting the Ranking when a user belongs to multiple user groups. Note in Joomla! a user who logs in is a member of more than one group because there is implied membership along the parent group chain from public downwards.  So you may well need to set jDownloads Ranking values!

PS Looking at article 'Controlled Access to Categories and Downloads (Permissions & Access Levels)' may also be useful.
