Translation of category files
« on: 08.07.2014 11:14:11 »
Hi, i'm using this version of Jdownloads, and i've a Joomla website with multilanguage (Italian and English).

I would ask you how can i do to translate the categories of Jdownloads files, on the other language. Cause i've an italian category, but when i'm in english version, the category have the same name.

Only the "up" and "search" link are translated (also the title name, cause the menu page title).

Thankyou for your help.

Hi
Just for clarity do you mean the name of the category?  Could you give some example names of what you typed in and what resulted.
This note in the FAQ might clarify matters

Hi, thankyou for your reply.

Sorry if i was not so clear, but i'm italian and i'll try to explain better myself.

What i want to do, is a multilanguage website.

So i've my website in English and Italian version.

In jDownloads, i've some categories of downloads, that have italian name. When i switch to english version, i would that this categories of download will be translated (or if not translated, showed only english categories).

So, if i've a category called "Job" , i would that when i'm in Italian, this category become "Lavoro" , etc.

How can i do this?

Or maybe if i create a category, the name will be only in one language?

Thankyou again and if i'm still not clear , tell me, so i will try to explain better myself.

Hi
I now understand what you are looking for.  I will need to check this out myself a bit further.  At the present time the Category Name and its corresponding Directory name may be different, although most people will use the same name.  So part of the mechanism is inplace.  To do what you want would need a translation file and for jDownloads o call the translation function. I do not the state of that part.

Hi, thankyou for your reply.

So, could you suggest me the best solution to have a category for the english version, and a category for the italian version?

Is there a way to show only some category for some language?

Cause if i've category of files called in italian language, i don't want that english users will see the same directory with italian, cause could not understand.

So what solution is most used for multilanguage website with jDownloads?

Thankyou

Hi
There does appear to be a way but it relies on having users in different User-groups.  At the moment jDownloads does not support language translations for Categories and Download Names.
Suppose you create two user groups, one called Italian-reader and the other one called say English-reader Also suppose we have two top level categories, one called Italian-cat and the other English-cat.  We now set the permissions on the Italian-cat that access is denied to English-reader group.  Similar but in opposite sense with English-cat.

Any sub category created below Italian-cat will inherit the attributes of Italian-cat; same for English-cat sub categories.

Also create two view groups, one called say Italian-view with the Italian-group as a member; and the other called English-view with English-group as the member.  Next create a list all categories menu entry with title "List all categories" with view access English-view.  Now create another list all categories menu item with title of say 'Elencare tutte le categorie' with view access as Italian-view.  Only members of the Italian-group will see the menu item 'Elencare tutte le categorie' and that will only show Italian Categories. Similarly the English-group members will only see the 'english' side of things.

Note also you can share a download file between different downloads so you only need common data once.

Mmm...thankyou for your reply, it could be a solution...but i would ask you if this will work also for visitors, or only with registered users.

Cause categories and files are pubblic, so i would that english visitors (that will see the english version of joomla website), will see only english categories (that i could set for some specific group).

So, is it possible?

Thankyou.

I'm trying to solve in that way:

1) Create an article with category layout (one for each language), whith category name. The name will be in the relative language and will link to the jDownload category.
2) Link to menu (different menu for each language) the article with the category layout.

So visitors that are with english side of website, will see the english menu voice, and italian will be the same with their language.

Now, what i'm looking for, is how could i link a text to a jDownload category.

And also, if is it possible that when i open that link, the menu voice will be active (for example, when i click on menu element, and open the article, it shows the menu voice as active).

The reason of menu voice active is that, for example, i open the menu voice "News" and when i'm on the page, i see the url like this "index.php/news/news1" where the "/news/" on the middle is the alias of the menu voice.

So i should find a solution where to create that link for the jDownload category, leaving the alias of menu (for example "Downloads") on the url.

Is there some help for this? :)

If we find a solution, it could be a solution for the multilangual website.
Thankyou.
