J!3.5.1
php version 5.4.45
Apache server
Databse version 5.5.48-cll

I followed the instructions here (http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/from-jd1-9-1-x-on-joomla-2-5-to-jd3-2-on-joomla-3-2) to upgrade JDownloads to 1.9.2 on J!2.5
Then followed the instructions here (http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/how-to-upgrade-jdownloads-component-from-1-9-x-to-latest-3-x-version) to upgrade Jdownloads to 3.2 on J!3.5.1
I had the luxury of being able to upgrade in a subdirectory on the same server, and keeping the original live site (for link checking and verifying permissions, file links etc)
I reset the user permissions and that part seems to be ok (I am testing with a user account that has ALL permissions, at this time), I had just started checking it until I ran into this situation:

On live site (old version but still working:)
I can login on http://sitename.com/index.php/customerlogin.html
After login you get redirected to this page:
http://sitename.com/index.php/customerdownloads/
this shows the (1.9.2) Categories List Layout
when clicking on a category to open, I get this type of a download link:
http://sitename.com/index.php/customerdownloads/viewcategory/2.html

On the test site,
when i login with customerlogin:
I get 404 error.
I pulled the menu item to a public visible menu, and same result
I set up a new login page: customerlogin2 with "http://sitename.com/testsite/customerdownloads" as the value in the Login Redirect
It works if i let it go to the user profile page where thy have to manually append /customerdownloads to the url
or I can put: index.php?option=com_jdownloads&view=categories in the login redirect box.
Then it gives me a list of download categories and the url: http://sitename.com/testsite/component/jdownloads/categories.html
When I click on a download category here, I get: http://sitename.com/testsite/Categories/customerdownloads/category/2-anam4-library.html
in the url and the product page in browser (I think instead of showing a 404?)

I saw "This requires creating a new base (root) category which must be the new parent category for all other categories." in the first set of directions (http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/how-to-upgrade-jdownloads-component-from-1-9-x-to-latest-3-x-version) so I started a new test site (another subdirectory) to try putting all of the downloads into one parent category

I think in the end I just have myself so confused: I have tried everything I can think of, played with the redirects plugin etc, until finally disabling the redirects plugin because it was just disguising the problem, but now I have no idea where to pick up and start again.

Any ideas at all?
I am desperate for help : )

PS I can give actual urls (or access to jDownloads crew) in PMs but client confidentiality prevents it here...

Hi,
it is not easy for us to help you when we cannot take a look at your backend.

QuoteI followed the instructions here (http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/from-jd1-9-1-x-on-joomla-2-5-to-jd3-2-on-joomla-3-2) to upgrade JDownloads to 1.9.2 on J!2.5

Then followed the instructions here (http://www.jdownloads.net/documentations/item/how-to-upgrade-jdownloads-component-from-1-9-x-to-latest-3-x-version) to upgrade Jdownloads to 3.2 on J!3.5.1

What was exactly your old version?
Would it be possible to get a backup from your old jDownloads data (created with the jD backup function on the 'Tools' page)?

I must away for the next hours but when i am back, i will try to solve your problem.
Best Regards / Gruß

Okay.  Please send me the backup via PM (use the file attachment).

I think you mean 1.9.2.11.

But why have you used this instructions?

Arno,
The original version was actually 1.9.1.6 : ) Sorry about the typo...
I sent the backup in a PM, just let me know if you need the jdownloads_cat or jdownloads_files database tables, too, I made copies of those, too.
Let me know if there is anything else I can provide to help troubleshoot this!
So very grateful for your help!

Arno- Thanks so much for helping me get the jDownloads set up and installed the right way! : )
we can mark this one solved in my book!

in regards to the weird urls being used:
Finally figured out the reason for the url to keep using the http://sitename/index.php/Categories/menu-item-name instead of http://sitename/menu-item-alias  ...
even though all of the joomla SEF settings were correct and url re-writes, etc
it was an easy matter of - in the manage menus section and in the individual menus to click on "rebuild"
Magic! All the links work!

Thanks again, Arno!
