News:

Support for jDownloads 3 has been ended
Since 17 August 2023 Joomla.org has discontinued support for Joomla 3.x. Therefore, we will no longer offer official support for our Joomla 3 jDownloads version 3.9.x from January 2024.
Please update your website to the latest Joomla version (Joomla 4 or Joomla 5) as soon as possible. Afterwards, please update jDownloads to the latest published version. The longer you delay, the more difficult the upgrade process for your website is likely to be.

I have updated my php from 5.6 to 7.0 on my staging site.
I have been delaying the upgrade because I get an error when clicking on the download for a document.
"www.staging1.aparian.com redirected too many times".

I have reinstalled jdownloads with no joy.
Also tried later php versions.
I have talk to tech support at siteground and they have no idea whatis causing the problem.
Any suggestions would be apreciated.

HiNot heard of a multiple redirect problem before!  Will try to help.
I went to your site and tried a to download via the Downloads menu itemGot message as below.  As my browser, Firefox, does send a referrer I presume that I fall foul of the priveledge. Is that correct?
Saw that you are using a modified Files layout but that is not the 'challenge' - thought it was nice about Type and file type. Will send you a PM.Colin
"Notice  Unauthorized access to downloads.
Error! Either you tried to start a download from an unauthorised resource or your browser did not send a referrer."

Colin,

I have tried my origin upload directory path
/home/aparian3/public_html/jdownloads

and in my staging directory
/home/aparian3/staging/1/jdownloads

with the same result.

Graham,
Seem related to hot link protection in the Security tab.  Turned that off and Downloads work.  Might be an .htacces conflict.  Still investigating.
