Hello,
After upgrading to jD v1.9.2.11 to jD v3.2.52 in search engines like Google has indexed many outdated SEF URL addresses. The problem is that clicking on one of them redirect to the main category (List all categories - Overview) of jD instead of giving a mistake to a non-existent page. I think the indexed links thus remain, instead of dropping out, as non-existent. Is there a solution to this issue?
Example old jD v1.9.2.11 SEF URL's : my-site/joomla-link/viewcategory/.... and my-site/joomla-link/viewdownload/...
Thanks
Hi
The usual way to handle these is in the .htaccess file in your site root.
You can get it to say change my-site/joomla-link/viewcategory/... to my-site/joomla-link/category/....
You might need to be careful over the ids in the link as the category ones have probably changed
There are many tutorials such as https://mediatemple.net/community/products/dv/204643270/using-htaccess-rewrite-rules
It does need careful testing. I always use File Zilla FTP and Notepad++ as its editor for such things.

Thank you for the source. I have manually removed a lot of URLs in the Google Webmaster and will wait to see what the result will be.
Used options Request Type in Google Webmaster / Search Console/ My Site / Google Index / Remove URLs / Temporarily Hide:
-"Temporarily hide page from search results and remove from cache"
-"Temporarily hide directory"
