Title: VERSIONING
Post by: pet238 on 18.07.2017 13:36:12
Maybe i am just a noob and have not read the documentation correctly but what about versioning.

My thought is that when i am going to upload a new excel for example....to ask me if i want the old to be deleted or not.

Hi
With jD you can have multiple versions but not in the way you envisage!
When you update an existing Download you can choose to delete the existing file and then upload a different on.  Actually you can choose to just upload a new file and it will automatically replace the existing one. However the Name of the Download does not change.

Also you could create a new download, even with the same Download Name.

Also one can optionally change the version field to give the Download a new version number.

Optionally you can also mark the Download as Updated.

Hi

Versioning to me would be a download page having access to the older/previous version of that particular software. This can be useful as an archive especially if the new version has some issues.

I know this is not an easy thing to do but would be nice. No other Joomla download component to my knowledge has this.

thanks

Hi,
All you need to do is include the version number in the name of the Download.  That is it is another Download. You can then get them all shown in sequence if you use date order. The latest one can be automaticall marked as New.

I have I understood you correctly?

You mean like you guys do on JDownloads http://www.jdownloads.com/index.php/downloads/category/6-jdownloads.html, basically a category just holding that one software. That is not versioning, it is a just a category with multiple downloads in.

What I mean is, a single download item which has all of the previous revisions avaiable from it.

This is a good example  https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Thanks Colin
